Thanks to everyone who attended, contributed, hosted sponsored and organized the Campaign for the Confluence -Evening of Local Flavors!
At the end of 2007 the Eno River Association purchased 179
beautiful acres of land where the east and west forks of the Eno River join to form its main
stem. The purchase permanently protects nearly four miles of stream frontage,
with scenic views and outstanding plant and wildlife habitat. This unique
property is in a mixture of woodlands and upland agricultural fields, and
has been designated a Nationally Significant Natural Heritage Area.

Located upstream of water intakes for Hillsborough, Durham and Raleigh,
the Confluence property protects the drinking supply from nutrient and
sediment input and helps maintain water quantity, an acute concern for
our communities. Plans for the land include natural resource restoration
and environmental education programs. This purchase represents an important acquisition for the Eno River Association and a new stage in the Association’s conservation work in the watershed. North Carolina’s conservation trust funds, Orange County and the City of Raleigh are all generous partners in the purchase of this Confluence property, but the Eno River Association must raise $185,000 to cover its financial commitment to the protection of this extraordinary place. Thanks to all who participated in the event, we are $30,000 closer to this goal! |
