DISTANCE/TIME: 2.79 miles/2.5
hours
ELEVATION DROP: 13 feet (5 feet
per mile)
NOTES: This is a novice section,
starting with a few Class I rapids. The current diminishes to almost
flat water for the last 1.5 miles as the water is backed up by an old
Duke Power dam. Stone's Creek enters from the west 300 yards upstream
from the dam. The creek is a scenic cascade, resembling a mountain stream.
Be careful not to get too close to the dam, especially when the water
level is high. Do not attempt to run the dam. When the water level is
high, there is a powerful hydraulic. When the water level is low, there
is an eight-foot vertical drop.
