Paddling on the Eno

Section 2: Few's Ford, Eno River State Park Access

NOTE: Spring 2006 - the dam at pleasant Green is in the process of being removed because of safety and environmental concerns. Please scout landing area prior to embarking. We will update these pages as the work continues.

LAUNCH: Few's Ford in Eno River State Park at the Piper-Cox parking lot. There is a 160-yard walk on a trail between the parking lot and ford. View a map of Few's Ford here.

TAKEOUT: Pleasant Green Dam in Eno River State Park. Parking lot is 20 yards from takeout, just off of Pleasant Green Road north of US70.. Small landing dock provided. View a map of the Pleasant Green access area here.

DISTANCE/TIME: 2.79 miles/2.5 hours

ELEVATION DROP: 13 feet (5 feet per mile)

NOTES: This is a novice section, starting with a few Class I rapids. The current diminishes to almost flat water for the last 1.5 miles as the water is backed up by an old Duke Power dam. Stone's Creek enters from the west 300 yards upstream from the dam. The creek is a scenic cascade, resembling a mountain stream. Be careful not to get too close to the dam, especially when the water level is high. Do not attempt to run the dam. When the water level is high, there is a powerful hydraulic. When the water level is low, there is an eight-foot vertical drop.
