WINTER TREE CAMP at Occoneechee Mountain State Natural Area, Hillsborough
10am - 4pm
River Dave's Wafting the Eno River program has morphed into a new land-based outlet for nature exploration and appreciation known as Tree Camp. Through the course of the calendar year, this program will be offered at several different natural areas in Durham and Orange Counties. The winter 2010 Tree Camp will be held at Occoneechee Mountain State Natural Area in Hillsborough. Advance registration is required. TINY TREKKERS (AGES 2 - 4 ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT)
FUR, FEATHERS, SKINS & SCALES

10:00am-11:00am - Trekkers learn about the different ways animals are covered through touch and observation. There will be a story, games and a chance to put some scales on a turtle and feathers on a fox. Registration closes two days prior to the program date. Eno River Winter Hike Series
2pm -- The Winter Hikes go out every Sunday afternoon from January to March at 2 p.m. from the Eno River State Park Headquarters (Few's Ford Access Area) at the very end of Cole Mill Road northwest of Durham. The hikes explore a different section of the Eno River Basin each week. Each hike lasts about two and a half-hours and cover 3 to 4 miles.

FEWS FORD HISTORIC HOMES HIKE
11:00 am - Join a park ranger to hike to four historic homesites in the Fews Ford Access. Two of the houses are standing, and the other two have significant structural remnants. The cultural history of the sites and the area will be discussed. This hike is only offered in the winter, as the homesites are much easier to see and to access. Spring is just around the corner and some birds will be looking for "cavities" to build their nests. Join us as we build nest boxes to help attract bluebirds, chickadees, and wrens to the park or your own backyard. Pre-registration is required and closed two days prior to the program date. NEW! Single-day camps offered on teacher work days and student holidays throughout the school year. Each day will be different, but every day will involve deep woods and meadow games, exploration along the Eno River, stories and songs around the campfire and an opportunity to build your earth skills and knowledge of the natural world.
