Wildflower Hikes
The Association invites you to enjoy the Eno this spring with
our Wildflower Hikes. The Eno River is home to a large variety
of blooming flowers, including hepatica and trout lily in March,
Dutchman's breeches and yellow lady slippers in April, and rhododendron
and mountain laurel in May.
Hikes begin at 2 pm every Sunday from March 14 through
May 10.
These free, guided hikes are open to the public. They are 2
1/2 hours long. Directions and schedule are posted below.

Sun, March 14, 2010 - - Cabelands
Difficulty Level: easy for most hikers
Meet in the parking lot at the Eno River State Park Cabelands access on Howe Street located off of Sparger Road between Hillsborough Road and Cole Mill Road in Durham.
Sun, March 21, 2010 - Willie Duke's Bluff, lower Eno near Penny's Bend - This hike is also included in the Creek Week programming. Folks need to register in advance - Email or call: kathy@enoriver.org or 919-620-9099 x204.
Difficulty level: Long, off trail, some bushwhacking, one steep climb
Coming from the west, take Duke Street North from I-85 (Exit 176). Turn right
on Murray Avenue (sign to the Museum of Life and Science), go until it reaches
Roxboro Street, turn left and look for the brown sign to Stagville. [Coming from
the east, you can take Roxboro Street directly from I-85.] Turn right here on
Old Oxford Road. If you pass Wallmart you have missed the turn. Go about three
miles until Old Oxford crosses the Eno. Immediately after the bridge, turn left
on Snowhill Road and look for the Penny’s Bend parking lot on your left.

Difficulty level: Moderate for most hikers , no established trail, rough at one
point
Coming from the west, take Duke Street North from I-85 (Exit 176). Turn right

Difficulty Level: easy for most hikers
Eno River State Park - Cole Mill Access area. Take Cole Mill Road to the intersection with Umstead Rd, Durham. Turn onto Old Cole Mill Road and follow it to the parking lot at the end of the road.
Sun, April 18, 2010 - Eno River State Park - Pump Station Trail
Difficulty level: Fairly easy
Take Cole Mill Road from I-85 (exit 173). Go north for several miles. Immediately
after Sparger Road on your left, turn into the parking lot of Northside Christian
Church. From there you will car pool to the Pump Station which is very close.
If you come on Sparger Road, turn left on Cole Mill to reach the parking lot
of the church.
Sun, April 25, 2010 - Eno River State Park - Pump Station
Difficulty level: Fairly easy
Take Cole Mill Road from I-85 (exit 173). Go north for several miles. Immediately
after Sparger Road on your left, turn into the parking lot of Northside Christian
Church. From there you will car pool to the Pump Station which is very close.
If you come on Sparger Road, turn left on Cole Mill to reach the parking lot
of the church.

Sun, May 9, 2010 - Mother's Day hike at Occoneechee Mountain State Natural Area, Hillsborough
Difficulty Level: Moderate - Strenuous due to steep terrain
Take exit #164 from I-85. Turn north toward Hillsborough on Churton Street. Turn
left on Mayo Street; go past a small shopping center. Turn left on Orange Grove
Road. After less than one mile, turn right on Virginia Cates Drive (gravel) just
before Orange Grove passes under the interstate. The parking lot is on the left
after the ponds.
Willie Duke's Bluff
Difficulty level: Long, off trail, some bushwhacking, one steep climb
Follow the directions to Penny’s Bend. Willie Duke's Bluff is the other
side of Old Oxford Road.
