Attention, nature enthusiasts! 🌿

Both the new and old visitor centers and their parking lots at Fews Ford access in Eno River State Park will be temporarily closed on June 26th and 27th. The trails and trailhead parking lots will remain open.

While the Fews Ford visitor centers take a brief break, we invite you to explore Occoneechee Mountain State Natural Area, or another one of the incredible parks and preserves managed by the Eno River Association and its partners.

πŸ‘‰ For more information about available parks and preserves, go to "EnoRiver.org" in our linkin bio!

Check out this fascinating praying mantis egg case Check out this fascinating praying mantis egg case found on Eagle Trail! The process of egg-laying in praying mantises is truly remarkable. Females lay their eggs in a frothy mass known as the oothecum, which hardens around the eggs to protect them. They can lay up to 300 eggs in a single sac, although only about one-fifth of the nymphs will survive to adulthood. These incredible creatures usually hatch in the spring or early summer when temperatures start to warm up, and throughout the summer, they undergo molting and growth. 🌞

Praying mantises are not only fascinating but also beneficial to have around. They act as nature's own pest control squad, keeping pesky insects like flies and mosquitoes at bay. 🚫🦟

If you visit Fews Ford at Eno River State Park or If you visit Fews Ford at Eno River State Park or West Point on the Eno this week or next, you may see us out and about with our iWalk the Eno Science and Nature Camp students! Each week we will be exploring, playing, and learning along the river with 60 8-12-year-old friends of the Eno.

With thanks to our camp funders, Burroughs Wellcome Fund and Duke Energy Foundation, and our partners Eno River State Park, Durham Parks and Recreation, Piedmont Wildlife Center, Frog Hollow Outdoors, Slice 325, and Whole Foods Market, we aim to inspire and excite the youth of our community and create future stewards of the natural world! 🌳🌎🌳

Join us on June 19th as we commemorate the histori Join us on June 19th as we commemorate the historic day of freedom and celebrate the rich heritage of Juneteenth. Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, marks the emancipation of the last remaining enslaved African Americans in the United States. It represents a pivotal moment in our nation's historyβ€”a day that symbolizes liberation, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of justice and equality.

Let's make this Juneteenth a powerful moment of reflection, celebration, and unity. πŸ™Œ As we honor the past and work towards a better future, let us embrace the values of equality, justice, and respect.
