A letter from our Executive Director
Dear Friends of the Eno,
I am honored to introduce myself as the new Executive Director of the Eno River Association. As a long-time resident of Durham and a passionate advocate for both people experiencing homelessness and stewardship of our environment, I am thrilled to step into this role and join such a dedicated community of conservationists, outdoor enthusiasts, and river stewards.
“I’m thrilled that Ryan has stepped into the role of Executive Director of the Eno River Association. His experience, demonstrated leadership in the community, and passion for our mission make him the ideal candidate for this position. I’m excited for our network of partners, volunteers, and supporters to engage with him as we continue to work together to protect the Eno and foster connections with communities throughout the watershed.”
Lindsay White, President, Board of Directors
My journey in the nonprofit sector has spanned over twenty years, focusing on housing, homelessness, and community resilience. Throughout my career—including my time at Families Moving Forward in Durham, the NC Coalition to End Homelessness in Raleigh, and as a consultant—I have learned that the most pressing challenges of our time require collaboration, innovation, and a deep commitment to shared goals. While much of my professional work has centered on supporting individuals in crisis, my love for the outdoors has been a guiding force in my life. Hiking, kayaking, and exploring the natural beauty of our region have provided me with both solace and inspiration. The Eno and its surrounding wild spaces have always held a special place in my heart, and I feel privileged to now play a role in ensuring their protection for generations to come.
I look forward to meeting and learning from the incredible individuals who make the Eno River Association’s work possible—our supporters, volunteers, and partners. Together, we will continue to grow this organization, expand our resources, and protect the lands and waters that define our home. My wife, Robyn, and our children, Miles and Fiona, share my enthusiasm for the outdoors, and I can’t wait for us to immerse ourselves even more deeply in this vibrant community.
I invite you to reach out, share your stories, and join me in shaping the future of the Eno River Association. Please feel free to contact me at ryan@enoriver.org—I’d love to hear from you. I look forward to working with you all to ensure that the Eno remains a source of wonder, recreation, and conservation for years to come.
With gratitude,

Ryan Fehrman
