Enjoy free music and performance art, visit our community partner tables, and take home new Eno River Association merchandise.
*We are actively monitoring weather conditions for Saturday, September 12. In case of inclement weather, we will transition festivities across Foster St. to the Durham Armory.
Live Performances
1:00 PM Paperhand Puppet Intervention – Beloved local artists bringing imaginative puppetry and visual storytelling to the celebration.
2:00 PM Duo d’Antan – A duo performing an eclectic blend of Parisian musette, Brazilian choro, swing, Irish folk, and traditional café music.
3:00 PM Durham Labor Choir – A community choir performing labor and movement songs that celebrate worker power through traditional favorites and contemporary arrangements.
4:00 PM Five Points Rounders with Rowdy Square Dance (Caller Simone Fine) – An energetic old-time string band accompanied by an interactive community square dance.
Interactive Activities
The Scrap Exchange – Reuse-focused crafting activities using reclaimed materials with a special kazoo workshop by Luke Vandergriff (more information below).
Eno River Community Mural – A live mural painting by Serendib Creative.
NC Herpetological Society – Live non-venemous snakes and reptiles
ERA Merchandise Station (“Little Big Top”) – Commemorative merchandise celebrating the Association’s 60th anniversary.
ERA Information Booth – Learn about conservation initiatives, volunteer opportunities, and ways to support the Eno River Association.

Pepito & The Trash Cans | September 12 at 11 a.m. in the Carolina Theatre
Luke Vandergriff tells a bilingual musical story about a little boy in Bolivia who longs to play music, but scarcity and misfortune stand in the way of his dream. Make a Kazoo from Junk!
Take a crack at turning trash into music yourself! In this hands-on workshop, participants will transform everyday discarded materials, including junk mail and plastic bags, into their very own working kazoos.
We’ll explore how simple materials can be repurposed into musical instruments. No musical experience is necessary; just bring your creativity and your sense of fun!
This playful workshop combines music, making, creativity, and environmental awareness, showing that something we might normally throw away can become something we can play.
Whether you’ve been part of our community for decades or are just getting to know the Eno, the plaza celebration is free and open to everyone.
