John "Blackfeather" Jeffries uses a feather to waft sage smoke during a blessing Tuesday morning of Occoneechee Mountain. Jeffries, a member of the Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation, participated in celebrating the preservation of the mountain and its addition to the N.C. state parks system.
