February Director’s Message Dear Friends of the Eno, February marks the celebration of Black History Month and I wanted to focus my message this month on acknowledging the significance of Black history as it relates to the Eno River Valley and share more about how race continues to impact our work today. My experience doing […]

As I look forward to 2026, I am energized by the road ahead. The ERA will be celebrating its 60th anniversary, sharing memories, accomplishments, and images throughout the year to recognize the many people that have contributed to our history. We are also planning to update our strategic plan to cover the next three years and to create a blueprint for our work through 2028.

Dear Friends of the Eno, In late January, before I had even officially started at ERA, I met with Kim Livingston over coffee to learn more about the agency and to get her perspective on what I should prioritize as I walked in the door. We talked for an hour and a half straight. I […]

July 29, 2025 by Ryan Fehrman

Dear Friends of the Eno, Thanks to everyone that was able to join us for our 46th annual Festival for the Eno on July 4th and 5th at West Point on the Eno City Park. It was amazing to see the community come together to enjoy the music, arts, crafts and demonstrations that make the […]

July Director’s Message

June 30, 2025 by Eve Salzwedel

Dear Friends of the Eno, Summer has officially arrived in North Carolina. My garden looks like a jungle. I actually want to eat the tomatoes that I’m seeing at the Red & White on Club Boulevard. Preferably on La Farm sourdough with salt, pepper, and slightly too much Duke’s mayo. My glasses steam up the […]

June Director’s Message

May 28, 2025 by Ryan Fehrman

Dear Friends of the Eno, Over the last three-plus months, I’ve made an effort to connect with as many of ERA’s volunteers, partners, and supporters as I possibly can. The reality is that I’ve barely scratched the surface, but literally every one of those meetings has been time well spent. It has been a true […]

A photo of a green grassy field at the Confluence with partly cloudy skies in the background and a branch of a blooming Eastern red bud tree in the foreground.

Dear Friends of the Eno, Of all of the many meetings, events, and conversations that I’ve had in my first three months at ERA, I think my favorite activity has been getting to know the staff. I was impressed with them during the interview process, but to see them in action, to have the chance […]

April Director’s Message

March 28, 2025 by Ryan Fehrman

Three woodcock chicks camouflaged in leaf debris.

Dear Friends of the Eno, There is a part of me, likely the part that is a parent of two children, that feels like I should love all the seasons equally. My confession is that winter is my least favorite season and spring is my favorite. I struggle in those short, cold days of winter. […]

Our Executive Director will send out a monthly Director’s Message addressing the friends and community of the Eno River Association. Dear Friends of the Eno, For my first Director’s message, I’ve been asked to define my relationship with the Eno. I am sincerely hopeful that this exercise will result in a better outcome and considerably […]
